The transition to parenthood can seem overwhelming and fraught with questions and puzzles. It’s my job to unravel the puzzles with you, and after a few weeks as your postnatal doula to leave you a calm, confident parent relishing and ENJOYING your amazing new relationship.
My aim is to help you move forward to the “new normal” and to feel supported and listened to. I want to empower you to feel confident, to make informed choices…and above all to relax and be happy! What I want more than anything else is to see you ENJOY being with your new baby. This is so important for your wellbeing and that of your baby as time goes by…and you will find it does go by very fast!
I love working with brand new parents, and I can remember very well what it felt like when I had next to no experience with babies, holding my brand new son in my arms! As an NCT antenatal teacher I am well aware of the pressures and challenges which new parents of today are facing. If you want to debrief your birth experience with me you will find me an informed and non-judgemental listener.
I am offering a 3 hour postnatal confidence-building session with you and your new baby. Here are some of the things we might discuss:
- work out whether you need equipment such as a sling (and how to wear it),
- what your baby needs – and how your baby is trying to tell you what he/she needs,
- how to play with your baby,
- how to organise your day,
- how you can protect your own wellbeing..,so that you and your baby grow into your “new normal”.
The vast majority of women CAN breastfeed with the right help, so I will, if wished, be supporting you within the bounds of my own training. If necessary I may refer you on to a qualified breastfeeding counsellor or lactation consultant if I think you need higher level support.
I can point you to sources of information about feeding, sleeping and baby care and gently guide you on your first steps into this wonderful new state of being – parenthood.
My target is to hear you say not “I couldn’t manage without you” but instead “I think I can do this on my own now!”
