Final days of pregnancy

“As the birth approaches you’re a bag of nerves, so you need to know your partner  is ready to swing into action whenever he gets that call.” That’s what a big pregnancy and baby advice website is saying today in its advice for the final days of pregnancy.

So you’re a “bag of nerves”, are you? I hope not. Being nervous and anxious in the final days of pregnancy is not, as a lot of people reasonably assume, inevitable. In fact one of the big differences between Hypnobirthing mothers and other mothers is noticed during those final weeks. Hypnobirthing mothers often seem calm, serene, enjoying their pregnancies and taking each day as it comes.

If you have been doing daily practice in relaxation, saying affirmations daily and perhaps even putting them up on post-it notes around your house, as Hypnobirthing mums do, you have a better chance to be more FOCUSSED than simply a bag of nerves.

You should also be learning by now to go completely relaxed very quickly, using a few simple cues that you’ve taught yourself over the past weeks.

And that partner “ready to swing into action” – fine, but is he jumping around like a cat on hot bricks, leaping to his feet every time you rub your tummy in case it is a “twinge”? Not very relaxing!

You won’t go into labour until your body feels ready and you won’t feel ready if you are tense.
